April 2026: Murals & More

This year is unfolding with an abundance of mural opportunities, and I feel deeply grateful—for the practice of art that keeps my mind and body healthy, and for the vibrant community of friends, artists, poets, and art lovers here in Albuquerque who help make it possible. It’s a life I could only dream about in 1965, when I stood wide-eyed in the Milwaukee Art Center, encountering Pop Art for the first time and realizing I wanted to become an artist.

Please scroll down for more details about upcoming events and projects. If you’re in the Albuquerque area, I hope you can attend one. And if not, I’d still love your support—whether that’s a quick visit at The Next Best Thing to Being There (1315 Mountain Rd NW) to watch the new mural take shape, or an encouraging comment on social media.

ENCOMPASS: A Multi-Generational Art Event

The Harwood Art Center, 1114 Seventh St. NW, Albuquerque, NM 87102

Closing Reception & Open Studios, April 11, 4:30-7:30pm

Please join me this Saturday during 4:30–7:30 pm at Harwood Art Center for the closing reception, where I’ll be facilitating a hands-on community activity inspired by the Harwood Girls Postcard Mural.

Harwood has transformed four layers of the mural process into a series of postcards. Participants are invited to color them, add their own creative layer, and write a message on the back—Harwood will even mail your postcard for you.

Throughout the event, a growing display of completed postcards will take shape on the wall behind me, creating a collective artwork in real time. There will also be live screen printing of an in-process version of the Harwood Girls Postcard by 111 T-Shirt Lab.

I’m so pleased to be part of this interactive community event!

Poetry and the I Ching: with Denise Weaver Ross & Jules Nyquist

Saturday, April 18,
10am–4pm

This class is almost full—join us as we celebrate the completion of the years-longI Ching Hexagram series with the release of 64 Hexagrams & Haiku, a book featuring all 64 paintings accompanied by an illustrated card deck. Each artwork draws from the ancient Chinese I Ching, a 2,000-year-old divination system where each hexagram—six stacked lines, yin or yang—reveals a key facet of life’s unfolding patterns.

The Next Best Thing to Being There, an extraordinary shop

1315 Mountain Road NW, Albuquerque, NM

With the help of friend and artist, Christian Michael Gallegos—who primed the wall, assisted with projecting the design, and is now painting the top triangle—we continue to work around busy schedules, weather and full lives to bring this mural to fruition.

It’s been a joy to see such an enthusiastic response, both from people online and from those who stop by the shop to experience it in person.
