JANUARY 2020: Leaping into the Now
This time of year we all spend time looking back and looking forward.
Entering 2020 and a new decade, our direction as a country and a planet seem more urgent than ever.
And I am reminded that we each only have NOW.
Postcards to America
NOW, as I write this, I am getting ready to drive to Baton Rouge to show art from my new series entitled Postcards of America at the national juried show Finding Your Voice In America Today at Kelwood Contemporary Art opening on January 10.
Postcards to America is a series of works-on-paper contrasting the postcard image of America with its reality. I will create a postcard image for each of the 50 states in reaction to the issues and events that keep me up at night. Topics will range from black-lives-matter, to immigration reform, to mass incarceration, to gun violence, to climate change and more.
This is not the type of artwork that I can fund with prints and products. If you are interested in supporting the creation of this series, learn more at the Postcards to America Patreon page.
Old Town Albuquerque, 2043 South Plaza St NW
First Friday Reception: January 3, 5-8pm • Open daily from 11am-6pm
If all goes well on my road trip to Baton Rouge I will be at Ghostwolf for this opening.
For January Ghostwolf artists were given the theme of 2020 Clear Sight: New year, new decade; Looking forward, looking back.
This led me to reflect on how we live past, present, future in the NOW.
Hexagram 4: Youthful Folly reminds us to jump into the NOW with the exuberance of youth.
Hexagram 2: Receptive Force reflects on the healing power of love is the one thing we can each do NOW.
Hexagram 29: Standing on the Edge of the Abyss reflects on where we all find ourselves NOW in the midst of climate change.
